This reminds me of a comment ...Good for you, Kevin. This reminds me of a comment from some famous art critic about Hopper, "If he'd been a better painter, he might have been a worse artist." I'm glad you've figured out the distinction between "better" painting and making the art you want to make. I went through something similar, and it was painful as all hell to say, "You know what? Those tricks you're using - those are good tricks. But they're irrelevant to what I'm trying to do, and I'm not going to learn them." Holy cow, you feel like you're admitting failure! But that's not it. You're becoming yourself. I'm glad you're becoming yourself, Kevin. Great post - happy new year.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15597234920324948705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096142183312311738.post-413391770850178402011-01-06T08:51:06.125-05:002011-01-06T08:51:06.125-05:00Susan, you haven't heard me sing! It's your voice ...You hit the nail on the head. It's your voice you need to improve. There are plenty out there who imitate. If your desire is to truly improve, you must do what comes natural to you. It is indeed your own voice. We can push our values, look for reflected light in our shadows, work on color transitions or even push for richer colors. These are all way we can improve our own work without loosing our voice. Don't loose yours Kevin. You already sing so nice...Susan Rouxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01811139850899265798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096142183312311738.post-44356729440911268692011-01-05T23:45:16.659-05:002011-01-05T23:45:16.659-05:00well...I was trying to figure out how you had gott...well...I was trying to figure out how you had gotten into my head! Still...I think we think too much. I had a teacher who kept telling me I was thinking too much. So 3 years later...I went to the studio today and trying to solve a bad painting..said to myself..why am I not doing what I want? I started painting and a whole new thing began to happen and I am actually looking forward to getting to the studio tomorrow.. I don't even care if the painting falls flat..I am doing something different and it was fun..I hope you get to do what you want..once you figure it out! Now quit thinking and get back to painting!!!Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14819844673551315071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096142183312311738.post-30863817579287299852011-01-05T21:04:19.822-05:002011-01-05T21:04:19.822-05:00ha ha!......
